The document is a memoir of life in the Kuching prison camp in North Borneo, with an emphasis on the efforts at self-education organised by the inmates, including dramatic performances and reading and discussion groups, certificates of academic achievement, etc. The accompanying report includes quite a detailed accounting of the books read, lectures given, plays performed, etc.
