Clarke, Jack Alfred Hopetoun (Sergeant, b.1912)
Description
Collection relating to the Second World War service of NX43493 Sergeant Jack Alfred Hopetoun Clarke, 2/10 Australian General Hospital. Consists of a handwritten Christmas greeting card sent by women and children interned at Changi to the first casualties arriving back from the Burma-Thai Railway, and an inoculation card for Sergeant Clarke. The card was delivered by the Red Cross along with a gift of flowers. Also included in the collection are sketches in pencil of Roberts Barracks, POW accommodation at Changi, and Sergeant Clarke's idea of an ideal Christmas dinner. On the reverse side of the sketches are hints on using a camera, penned in ink. Sergeant Clarke was a prisoner-of-war (POW) in Malaya.
