Description
Collection relating to the South African War (Boer War) service of 1242 Trooper Alan Aubrey Howard, "C" Squadron, 3rd NSW Mounted Rifles. Collection consists of two photocopies of a diary kept by Trooper Howard during the Boer War, from March 1901 through to March 1902. With daily entries the diary breifly describes the fighting conditions Trooper Howard experienced and his day to day movements during the conflict. Also includes copies of the following: discharge papers, a letter of reference, a poem entitled 'Not a C.I.V.' (City of London Imperial Volunteer), and a newspaper cutting dated 31st July 1927 and related to J.F. Thomas, formerly a defending officer in the Morant-Handcock trial.
