Oliver, William Alex (Private) & Gilpin, Keith Lyall (Lieutenant Sergeant)
Collection relating to the First World War service of Private William Alex Oliver, 8th Company, Australian Army Medical Corp, and to the Second World War service of NX108259 Lieutenant Sergeant Keith Lyall Gilpin, 5 Australian Survey Battery, RAA. Collection consists of two original letters forwarded to Private Oliver and one Leave Pass. One letter, dated 21st April 1919, was sent from a friend (Jim) stationed in Dieppe, France, and talks of the boredom of Army life and the prevailing attitude of soldiers awaiting return to Australia. The second letter, dated 20th June 1943 was sent from a friend (Lieutenant Sergeant Gilpin) stationed in New Guinea, and describes Gilpin's first impressions and efforts at improving standards of accommodation at the camp in New Guinea.
