Collection relating to service of 1250 Private Thomas Patrick Collins, 16 Battalion, Egypt, 1915? Collection includes a printed newspaper clipping of a copy of a letter written by Collins home to his mother.

History / Summary

1250 Private Thomas Patrick Collins was established as the writer of this letter from the information contained in the letter relating to Yongala, South Australia through AWM 145 Roll of Honour database search. A cross-check with the details of Jack Byrt who was also mentioned in the letter. 1121 John Thomas (Jack) Byrt, 10 Battalion, died of measles 20 January 1915 (AWM145). His brother (established through Embarkation Rolls, AWM8) 1246 Eugene Clarence Byrt was in 16 Infantry Battalion as was Collins.


Biographical note: Died at Alexandria, 29 May 1915, of wounds received at Gallipoli. Buried at Chatby War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt. Shunter (railway worker) with South Australian Railways.
