Collection relating to service of Lieutenant Frederick William Appleton, 14 Battalion, Egypt and France 1916-1918. Collection includes extracts from diary and from letters sent to Vera [sister] in Melbourne. Extracts made by Australian War Memorial in 1928. Location of originals unknown.

Biographical note: Lieutenant Frederick William Appleton, 14 Battalion, Australian Infantry. Awarded the Croix de Guerre (France). Killed in action, Morcourt, France, 8 August 1918. Age 36. Son of Lawrence Frederick and Mary Appleton. Born at St. Kilda, Victoria, Australia.
