Hains, Kenneth Mervyn (Private, 7 RAR b: 1948)
Description
Collection relating to 1735346 Private (Pte) Kenneth Mervyn Hains, who served with the 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (RAR) in Vietnam from February 1970 to March 1971. The main item in the collection is a hard covered scrapbook compiled by his sister, Mrs Helen Bielenberg, and includes letters written by Mervyn to his sister and brother-in-law, newspaper clippings, photographs, and related souvenirs. It spans the period from his departure to, and tour of duty in Vietnam, and his return to Australia. Collection also includes numerous service documents relating to Pte Hains, such as a paybook, leave pass, certificate of vaccinations, bank book to which he had his pay deposited, his passport issued in Vietnam to enable him to travel to Taiwan on leave, and a small publication titled '7th Battalion RAR Soldier's Handbook'.
