Description

LETTER WRITTEN AFTER JACKSON WAS SHOT DOWN BETWEEN LAE AND SALAMAUA ON 10 APRIL, 1942. JACKSON TRYING TO GET A MESSAGE THROUGH TO HQ PORT MORESBY OR NGVR. HE PRAISES NATIVES OF NEW BRITAIN WHO ASSISTED HIM. JACKSON WAS LATER RESCUED BUT LATE IN APRIL 1942 WAS KILLED IN A FLYING BATTLE. SEVEN MILE AIRSTRIP AT MORESBY RENAMED JACKSON'S STRIP AFTER HIM
