Baden Silver Merit Medal
Description
Baden Silver Merit Medal. Unnamed as issued. Obverse: The bust of Friedrich II in military uniform facing left, with the inscription 'FRIEDRICH II GROSSHERZOG VON BADEN.' (Freidrich II Grand Duke of Baden) around the circumference. Reverse: Within an oak leak wreath 'FUR VERDIENST' (For meritorious service) on two lines. The medal is fitted with a loose ring suspender and a piece of 25 mm yellow ribbon which has an 8 mm red stripe down the centre and thin white edges.
History / Summary
Instituted in 1806, the Baden Merit Medal had was awarded in two classes two classes, gold or silver. It was awarded to non-commissioned officers and lower ranks for military merit. This medal forms part of a collection assembled by the Memorial in the 1920s for display.
