Description

Interior of a tunnel on the Gallipoli Peninsula. Work on this tunnel began on 29 May; by 8 June 50 miners were involved. While the Turks created extensive tunnel networks, they were outperformed by the Australian and New Zealand miners, who, while lacking the usual tools of their trade, had the advantage of the British entrenching tool.
