Description

A pair of embroidered RAAF pilot's wings (brevet), with the letters removed and replaced with the letters 'RFC' . A metal clip is attached to reverse.

History / Summary

804 Sergeant George Stanislaus Wilkinson served with G Company,2 Battalion AIF, and later with the Anzac Mounted Division in Palestine. He enlisted from Bingara, NSW, on 31 August 1914 and returned to Australia on 27 February 1917. Age on enlistment, 24; occupation, clerk. Although his return to Australia date is given, he did not in fact return but taken on strength, on 28 February 1917, in the Royal Flying Corps (later Royal air Force) as a member of the Special Reserve (ie colonial enlistments), where he became a pilot. He was commissioned as a lieutenant on 1 April 1918.
