Description
This post-war reconstruction poster depicts Marianne, a personification of the French republic, with sheaves of wheat. On one level, the wheat represents the rewards of victory which France has begun to reap. More importantly, however, it symbolises the woman's fucundity. The apron forms a womb-like space in which the wheat, France's child, rests.
