Description

Prisoners of war (POWs) of Stalag 383 participating in a concert called 'Anzacs on Parade'. There are four musicians on the right, including two holding violins, and two 'couples', each including a male dressed as a woman. The couple in the centre are identified as 'Mo and girl', and the couple on the left are unidentified, but one of them is holding a lead which is attached to a toy dog. 'Mo' is dressed as 'Mo' Roy Rene, a well known Australian comedian, famous as half of the duo 'Mo' and 'Stiffy', renowned for their bawdy 'blue' comedy. The photo is credited on the bottom right-hand corner 'Photo_Hodges and Chase'. Hodges and Chase were informally sanctioned photographers in Stalag 383; they were permitted to photograph the theatre and sports events, selling prints in exchange for cigarettes to fund POW theatre productions and sports events.
