Description

Wedmore, England. Royal Army Service Corps mine disposal staff supervising the retrieval of the first German acoustic parachute mine made safe by mine disposal officers attached to the Enemy Mining Section of HMS Vernon. This and other mines that German bomber aircraft inadvertantly dropped on land, rather than esturaries and coastal areas, provided critical information about enemy mine technology. A farmer at right is controlling a tractor which is being used to winch the mine onto the truck at left. A parachute is still attached to the mine and the farmers and children are watching proceeding from close by.
