Collection relating to the British Army and Second Afghan War service of 791 Private George Dandridge, East Yorkshire Regiment, 1875-1887, and of the First World War and Second World War service of his son P/239478 Leading Seaman Ernest George Dandridge, Royal Navy, 1907-1945.

Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of an account book and Parchment Certificate of Discharge related to Private George Dandridge's service with the 15th Regiment of Foot and, later, the East Yorkshire Regiment of the British Army from 1875 to 1887. The account book details Dandridge's enlistment, educational qualifications, pay, posting to India, and his active service from August to December 1880 during the Second Afghan War. The inside back cover of the account book includes a list of stations Dandridge served at in England, India and Afghanistan. He was discharged from service in January 1887.

Wallet 2 of 2 - Consists of documents, certificates and news clippings related to Leading Seaman Ernest George Dandridge's career in the Royal Navy from 1907 to 1930 and again from 1939 to 1945. The wallet includes two Certificates of Service, which document Dandridge's postings, promotions, qualifications and awards during his naval career, a Certificate for Wounds and Hurts, issued after Dandridge was wounded in action when HMS Invincible (1907-1916) sunk during the Battle of Jutland on 31 May 1916, and a typed report detailing the sinking of HMS Invincible and attesting that Dandridge was one of six survivors from the crew of 1,031. The wallet also includes a 1931 Vocational Training Certificate certifying that Dandridge has qualified to work as a rigger's labourer, a form of service programme held for HMS Invincible in 1935, the certificate and newspaper clippings related to Dandridge being Mentioned in Despatches while serving with HMT Doon in June 1942, and a 1960s news clipping on Dandridge's service and the sinking of HMS Invincible.
