Studio portrait of 3849 Corporal Frank McArthur, 13th Battalion
Description
Studio portrait of 3849 Corporal (Cpl) Frank McArthur from Glenfield, NSW. Cpl McArthur enlisted on 28 August 1915 and served as a signaller with the 13th Battalion. For his actions near Zonnebeke, Belgium on September 1917 he was awarded a Military Medal; the recommendation cited the'excellence of the signal communications' that the then Private (Pte) McArthur maintained throughout the advance, along with Ptes William Thomas Butler and David Timothy McEvoy. The three men were praised for their 'brave and skilful work' in doing 'all that was humanly possible to keep the wires going' under extremely heavy fire. Cpl McArthur returned to Australia on 13 April 1919.
