There are fabric pockets filled with horsehair, each with a cotton tie, behind each of the liner pads. The shell has been punctured, apparently by shrapnel, and there is corresponding damage to one the liner pouches. Stamped in black ink on the inside of the rear apron of the helmet, is '68' [the size] and 'AK' [an acceptance mark]. There are dried deposits of mud on the interior of the crown and there is rust and accretion on the apron around the liner. The chin strap is missing.
