Studio portrait of either: 1004 Private (Pte) James King, 22nd Battalion, of East Malvern, Vic; or 1233 Pte John King, D Company, 23rd Battalion, of Rutherglen, Vic; or 2173 Pte James Alexander King, 4th Reinforcements, 23rd Battalion, of Northcote, Vic. 1004 Pte King enlisted on 27 January 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ulysses on 8 May 1915. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) on 18 January 1919 and returned to Australia on 8 April 1919. 1233 Pte King enlisted on 5 March 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Euripides on 10 May 1915. He was killed in action on 4 August 1916 at Pozieres, France. 2173 Pte James Alexander King enlisted on 10 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Hororata on 27 September 1915. He returned to Australia on 8 April 1919
