Save your waste
In July 1943, the Curtain Government passed the National Security (Salvage) Regulations, which established the Commonwealth Salvage Commission (CSC). The CSC worked to promote what we call recycling today. It was seen that Australia was lagging behind its Allied counterparts in terms of the amount of recycling that they were doing, with these regulations seeking to alleviate this issue, as every new item being made from raw materials would take those materials away from the war effort. The 'Save Your Waste' Campaign was a campaign to promote the work of the CSC. This poster also cleverly ties in the viewer to the war effort purely in their efforts to recycle, highlighting that 'every scrap has a war-job now!'. As a result, it allowed viewers to relate their recycling work to helping the greater war effort.
