Wing Commander (Wing Cdr) Gerald Cumming AFC of Malvern, Vic, (left, facing camera), chats with an unidentified airman at the Malta base of 78 Fighter Wing RAAF. On his left is the Officer Commanding the Wing, Group Captain Brian Eaton DSO, DFC of Canterbury, Vic. Wing Cdr Cumming was the leader of the RAAF Air Race team, which was flying an Australian Canberra aircraft between Christchurch and London; the team stopped off in Malta en route.
