"These ACF hussifs are a godsend"...
Description
Depicts three soldiers sitting outside of a tent that has been erected in muddy terrain. The boots of the soldiers are caked in mud. One of the soldiers appears to be repairing some bandaging around his foot. 'Hussif' is believed to be slang for 'housewife', and it is a small calico or cotton pocket with room for needles and thread. The A.C.F., formed in January 1940, worked in conjunction with the Salvation Army, the Y.M.C.A. and the Y.W.C.A. Its 'comforts' ranged from hostels, clubs and canteens in Australian towns, Jerusalem, Alexandria and Singapore and elsewhere, Christmas hampers, embarkation kits, and film screenings.
