"We kneel only to thee"
Description
This Second World War poster depicts a burly British soldier at prayer. The soldier, who is kneeling in the foreground, is wearing the uniform of the British infantry; he is also wearing a backpack and rifle, and his his helmet is lying next to his foot. The black and white image uses shading and contrast to evoke an atmosphere of serenity and calm. To the left of the man is a bible lying on a low surface, such as a desk or a pew. The text reads 'We kneel only to thee' at the bottom of the work. Poster reproduced from a 'Sunday Graphic' cartoon, by unknown printer. Underneath the English is the translation written in Chinese, and then in Tamil.
