Description

Newsmap SouthWest Pacific Vol.3 - No.09 published 29 March 1945. It features the headlines 'Capture of Walled City Frees Manila' and 'YANKS DRIVE TOWARD COLOGNE' with an illustrated feature identifying a selection of the more common Japanese infantry weapons printed on the verso. These include pistols, rifles, mortars and machine guns.

Newsmaps were double sided posters published from 1942 by the U.S. Army's Information and Education Section. The posters were aimed at troops and detailed progress of the war, information on enemy and Allied equipment and tactics across the different theatres of the conflict. The Newsmaps followed a familiar format and by 1943 featured newspaper style layout on one side and full size maps or illustrated information on the other.
