Description

Victorian-printed Second World War poster promoting safe road practices. The poster depicts a family with a young girl hailing a tram at night time during the brownout that had started in December1941. The poster highlights that when hailing or bus that a handkerchief or newspaper should be used in order to gain the attention of the driver and that waiting on the kerb until the vehicle has stopped is the best option. Posters such as this were targeted at improving road safety and thereby reducing accident numbers. With the subsequent lowering of accident numbers, it would in theory mean that less resources would be put into avoidable incidents when instead they could be used for essential war production.
