Description
Studio portrait of 1100 Private (Pte) Percy Lawson, A Company, 30th Battalion, of Surrey Hills, Vic. Pte Lawson enlisted on 1 July 1915 and embarked aboard HMAT Beltana in Sydney on 9 November 1915. On 8 May 1919 he embarked aboard HT Devanha to return to Australia. Note he is wearing a Queen's South Africa Medal with three clasps, showing the obverse side of the medal with Britannia holding a wreath towards troops. He served with the 2nd Scottish Horse in South Africa. This unit was raised in South Africa and was comprised of South African, Scottish and Australian men.
