Henri Chipot- French prisoner of war
Description
Depicts a head and shoulders portrait of a French prisoner of war, Henri Chipot, 79 Regiment D Infantry, who had spent six months in a German camp. Cadell wrote of Henri: "This fragile 20-year-old was, a year ago, a robust, jolly looking business man in Lille. Six months in German prison camps have reduced him to a skeleton. Many of these prisoners have only come back to die."
