Description
Studio portrait of 717 Private (Pte) Arthur Bernard Johnson (alias Johnstone), Australian Army Medical Corps, of Melbourne, Vic (originally of Islington, London, England). Pte Johnson enlisted on 14 October 1914 and embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Kyarra on 28 November 1914. On 4 December 1915 he sailed from Suez and disembarked at Melbourne on 2 January 1916. Pte Johnson re-enlisted on 3 February 1916 and sailed from Melbourne aboard HMAT Wandilla. He was killed in action on 23 July 1916 at Pozieres, France.
