New South Wales engineer officers mess waistcoat
Description
New South Wales engineer officer's mess waistcoat. Dark blue superfine waistcoat has a black corded silk back lined with white cotton. The neck, front and lower front edge are edged with gold Russia braid. Inside the braid is a single row of decorative gold Russia braid loops. There are two mock pockets edged in the same looped braid. The left front is edged with a row decorative gilded brass studs. The waistcoat is fastened down the front with alternately placed hooks and eyes. There is a hand stitched tube in the lower back lining inset with elastic (now perished) secured to each side seam, for ease adjustment.
