Stein, John William (Private, b.? - d.1918)
Description
Collection relating to 2937 Private John William Stein, a cook with the 47th Battalion. Collection comprises eight letters to his sister covering the years 1917-1918. Three letters describe his time in England May-June 1917 and detail training at a cooking school at Tidworth. Stein's last letter written in March 1918, is sent from France. He writes about receiving cards from other family members and his hope to return to Australia in the following year. Stein was killed on 5 April 1918, during a German attack on Dernancourt, Albert.
