Dat Do, South Vietnam. 1969-06. The Commander of Australian Forces in Vietnam (COMAFV), Major General (Maj Gen) R. A. Hay of Canberra, ACT (right), speaks with the Company Sergeant Major of D Company (Coy), 9th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (9RAR), Warrant Officer Class 2 John Smitheringdale of Singleton, NSW. Maj Gen Hay was visiting the village, where D Coy is providing protection for Australian Army engineers building a defensive bunker system around the village.
