3/2555 Private (Pte) Edward John (Ted) Ortlipp (wearing slouch hat), aged 29, of Bright, Vic, 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR), shakes hands with an unidentified Iban tracker from the Sarawak Rangers as a group of them (all wearing berets) prepare to move off in a three ton truck which will take them from the 1RAR base at Kuala Kangsar in Northern Malaya, southwards for reorganisation and retraining. The trackers have been involved in anti terrorist operations for many months, and proved to be a vital asset for 1RAR jungle operations and border patrols. Pte Ortlipp also served in Korea where he completed two tours with 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) between 1951 and 1952 and later between 1953 and 1954.
