General Sir William Riddell Birdwood seated in an Avro 504K prior to a flight from the Australian aerodrome. The pilot is Major (Maj) Roy Cecil Phillipps MC & Bar DFC, late 28th Battalion AIF, Commanding No. 6 Training Squadron, Australian Flying Corps (AFC), from 27 August 1918 to March 1919; on the right is Maj R. S. Brown, AFC (AGA), Commanding No. 5 Training Squadron, AFC, from 28 April 1918 to May 1919; in front of the wing is Captain W. F. Allen, No. 6 Training Squadron, AFC.
