Description
Studio portrait of Sergeant (Sgt) James Herbert Evans, 22nd Battalion, of Melbourne, Vic (originally Cardiff, Wales). Sgt Evans enlisted on 9 February 1915 and embarked aboard HMAT Ulysses on 8 May 1915. On 14 August 1916 he was promoted to temporary second Lieutenant and on 2 December 1916 he received a permanent commission. He returned to Australia on 23 September 1919.
