Description

Studio portrait of 1887 Private (Pte) Charles Leslie Bettles, 2nd Reinforcements, 22nd Battalion, of Kew, Vic. Pte Bettles enlisted on 18 June 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Anchises on 26 August 1915. He was killed in action on 29 July 1916 at Pozieres, France. His brother, 2081 Lance Corporal Roy Scott Bettles, 23rd Battalion, was also killed in action on 28 July 1916 in France.
