Description
Studio portrait of 2398 Private (Pte) Thomas Gray Strachan, 5th Reinforcements, 22nd Battalion, of Middle Dale via Corowa, NSW. Pte Strachan enlisted on 6 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Osterley on 29 September 1915. While serving as a lance sergeant he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) on 30 October 1918. He was later promoted to Sergeant (Sgt) and was awarded the Military Medal (MM) on 3 July 1919. Sgt Strachan returned to Australia on 13 July 1919.
