Description
Studio portrait of 2323 Private (Pte) Herbert James White, 4th Reinforcements, 22nd Battalion, of Hawthorn, Vic. Pte White enlisted on 10 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Hororata on 27 September 1915. He was killed in action on 5 August 1916 in France. His brother, 4315 Pte George Phillip White, 1st Field Ambulance, was wounded in Pozieres, France, and died on 10 August 1916. His cousin, 631 Pte Henry Austin Davey, 31st Battalion, was wounded at Bullecourt, France, and died on 20 May 1917.
