Darge Photographic Company collection of negatives
Studio portrait of 6332 Private (Pte) Eddie Lindstrom, 24th Battalion from East Brunswick, Victoria. A 19 year old farmer prior to enlisting on 28 August 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 18th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 23 November 1916 aboard HMAT Hororata (A20). Following further training in England, he proceeded to France where he joined the 24th Battalion on 13 May 1917. After being wounded in action on 21 March 1918, he was evacuated to England for medical treatment and then returned to Australia. Pte Lindstrom arrived back in Australia on 30 January 1919. [See also images DA16533 and DA16538.] This is one of a series of photographs taken by the Darge Photographic Company which had the concession to take photographs at the Broadmeadows and Seymour army camps during the First World War. In the 1930s, the Australian War Memorial purchased the original glass negatives from Algernon Darge, along with the photographers' notebooks. The notebooks contain brief details, usually a surname or unit name, for each negative.
