Darge Photographic Company collection of negatives

Grave of 3914 Private (Pte) Thomas Henry Puddephatt, 1st Pioneer Battalion from Wodonga, Victoria. He was a 36 year old carpenter when he enlisted in the AIF on 3 August 1915 and embarked for overseas on 23 November 1915 with the 12th Reinforcements of the 6th Infantry Battalion from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ceramic. After arriving in Egypt, he transferred to the 1st Pioneer Battalion on 12 March 1916 and arrived in France on 2 April 1916. Pte Puddephatt was killed in action on 25 April 1916 and buried in the Rue Petillon Cemetery, Fleurbaix, south west of Armentieres, France. This image is a copy made by the Darge Photographic Company from a photograph taken in France sometime between April 1916 and April 1919. The Darge Photographic Company had the concession to take photographs at the Broadmeadows and Seymour army camps during the First World War. In the 1930s, the Australian War Memorial purchased the original glass negatives from Algernon Darge, along with the photographers' notebooks. The notebooks contain brief details, usually a surname or unit name, for each negative.
