Description

Outdoor group portrait of three members of the Western Australian Section at the 12th Signal School. Identified from left to right are believed to be 8801 Sapper Albert Victor Willis Cook, 4th Field Company Engineers from Toodyay, Western Australia [see image DAOD1195]; 2019 Private (Pte) William John Edwards, 10th Light Horse Regiment from Perth, Western Australia [see image DAOD1194]; and 2342 Pte Frederick Milton English 10th Light Horse Regiment from Perth [see image DAOD1196]. All three soldiers returned to Australia. This is one of a series of photographs taken by the Darge Photographic Company which had the concession to take photographs at the Broadmeadows and Seymour army camps during the First World War. In the 1930s, the Australian War Memorial purchased the original glass negatives from Algernon Darge, along with the photographers' notebooks. The notebooks contain brief details, usually a surname or unit name, for each negative.
