Description
The Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Robert G Menzies, shakes hands with and speaks to NX135280 Sergeant T M Murray, bandmaster of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), at Kure Docks. The battalion band is lined up on parade behind them at rear. The officer in the right foreground standing at Menzies's back is Lieutenant General H C H Robertson, the Commander in Chief of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF) in Japan. At extreme right, a press photographer stands ready with his camera to take photographs of the event. Prime Minister Menzies has just arrived at Kure aboard the RAN destroyer HMAS Bataan (not in view) for an official visit of inspection to Australian units serving with BCOF in the Kure area.
