Description
One of a series of photographs taken in order to show the shell craters on the surface of the Pozieres battlefield, in France. The light and shade on the snow illustrate the unevenness of the ground more clearly than photographs obtained during the summer. This photograph was taken looking from the school-house at Pozieres in a north-westerly direction, towards the orchard captured on 24 July 1916 by the 8th Battalion.
