Description

Following the 6th Brigade attack on 3 May 1917, in the fight for Bullecourt, the casualties were very heavy. Along this road, which the enemy consistently shelled, the wounded came by scores, and the stretcher bearers suffered considerably. A shell is seen bursting in the background over a stretcher party. The man in the foreground is looking back to see where the shell has burst.
