General Sir William Riddell Birdwood (centre) shaking hands with Major H W Murray VC DSO DCM (left), 16th Battalion (later commanding officer of the 4th Machine Gun Company) after presenting him with a bar to his DSO for bravery during the first attack on Bullecourt, near the Hindenburg Line. The ceremony took place at Ribemont. Standing in the background at right is General William Holmes, commanding the 4th Division.
