Group Headquarters of the 4th Field Artillery Brigade. Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Lexton ...
Description
Group Headquarters of the 4th Field Artillery Brigade. Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Lexton Shellshear DSO, Commanding Officer, 4th Brigade (left), was in charge of a group of artillery. This cubicle was being used as an Adjutants office, a Brigade orderly room and officers mess and sleeping quarters for six officers. This cubicle, approximately ten feet by eight feet, was the home of Group Headquarters for about six weeks. The floor generally had about an inch of water on it although pumps were being used continuously to try and drain it out, and the atmosphere was very heavy and odorous. Standing to the right is Captain E R Guymer, Regimental Medical Officer, 4th Brigade.
