Description

Members of the 24th Battalion, AIF, resting in a mine crater, just behind Albert Redoubt, in the Ypres Sector, during the battle of 20 September 1917. Identified are: Private (Pte) G Whitehead (top right, walking towards the crater); bottom of the crater in the foreground; two across to the right from the soldier with the moustache, with his right hand under his head, is Pte Christian; above him lying sideways is Pte Twiss; extreme right foreground, looking at camera and smoking a cigarette is Pte Wilson. This is a composite image Captain Hurley produced by adding an explosion to the horizon of and original version of E00782.
