The 15th Field Company of Australian Engineers, resting, and playing cards (left), in the vaults ...
The 15th Field Company of Australian Engineers, resting, and playing cards (left), in the vaults beneath the ramparts of Ypres, after their splendid work in improving conditions on the Ypres battle ground. Identified, right to left: 6757 Sapper William Henry Clarke (right, furthest from camera); 6984 Sapper A H Parkin (sitting on bottom bunk closest to camera), and 7026 Sapper J E Barwood (standing, leaning against pole and smoking a pipe). The other men are members of either the 21st or 22nd Battalion, 2nd Australian Division. They are part of the 100 infantry of the 6th Australian Brigade who were attached for engineer work to the 6th Division during September, October and November 1917. Each day these men went out to work on communications to the front line together with parties from the 6th Field Company, Australian Engineers.
