Description

Australian Engineers, of the 15th Field Company, making crosses for their fallen comrades amid the ruins of Ypres. Out of the ancient oak, which formed the doors and interior fittings of the historic Cloth Hall, pounded to wreckage by German bombardments, they fashioned many monuments to the men who made the supreme sacrifice. Left to right: 6149 Lance Corporal (LCpl) G. L. McDonald; Gallagher; Lieutenant Littlewood; 6141 Corporal A. G. Dobb; 6214 LCpl E. A. Grace; 3205 Sapper F. Callander; 5722 Drover N. J. Porter; H. Guyan; unidentified.
