A view of the cutting held by the 36th Battalion in support near Mericourt, in which they suffered casualties from short ranged shellfire of the British 60 pounder guns. A Sergeant was killed a few minutes before the photograph was taken and the body is covered by the blanket seen in the centre of the photograph.
