Description

A gun of the 1st Australian Siege Battery at Gordon Road, near Half Way House, a position taken up on 6 October 1917. The heavy camouflage was necessary owing to the exposed position of the gun, and only 4000 feet from the enemy front line. The battery was here subject to enemy action and during the fortnight it occupied this position, suffered twelve casualties. Left to right: Corporal S. J. Downey; Bombardier Allman; Lieutenant W. W. Whittle. This is an original Paget Plate negative. The same image is available in colour and is held at P03631.179.
