Description

The ruined Flour Mill at Strazeele, in Northern France, used as Headquarters by the 3rd Battalion, from 12 April to 17 April 1918, on which date the wind vane was knocked by a direct hit. Several of the other buildings were wrecked and burnt by enemy incendiary shells. The road in the foreground ran from Pradelles to Strazeele, and turning the corner, it continued toward the Strazeele station, which formed the front line in the vicinity. It was on 14 April that the 1st Division fought the battle of Strazeele.
